出西窯　Shussai-gama kiln

解説：出雲大社から東へ約十二キロ、神話をひめて宍道湖へ流れる斐伊川のあたりに、昭和22(1947)年秋、子供の頃から親しい五人の青年が協働して村ではじめての陶窯を築きました。柳宗悦の民藝の教えに一心に帰依して野の花のように素朴で、健康な美しい器、暮らしの道具として、喜んで使っていただける物を作ろうと祈り願って、心を一つにして仕事をしています。

Characteristics: In the fall of 1947 five childhood friends established the first kiln in their village at Hii River, steeped in myth, that runs from 12 km east of Izumo shrine into Lake Shinji. They follow the Mingei ethos of Soetsu Yanagi and focus on one heart’s desire to produce wholesome practical pottery with simple beauty, like wild flowers, to empower people.
