解説：龍門司焼は、1598年朝鮮半島より渡って来た朝鮮人陶工によって始められた古帖佐焼の流れをくむ窯です。1688年、桜島を南に臨むこの山ふところに築かれ、以来三百年余りの歴史を守り続けています。花瓶、皿、酒器、茶器、食器、鉢等の器種に、渋い飴釉や黒釉、あざやかな色調の三彩、珍しい鮫肌や蛇蝎釉、そして黒釉に青流し、玉流し等の多種多様な釉薬が施され、素朴ながらも優美な品格を持っています。粘土や釉薬の原材料は地元で採取され、精製、調合して、登窯で焼成しています。

Characteristics: Ryumonji ware derives from Kochosa ware which was established in 1598 by Korean potters. Ryumonji ware itself was established in 1688 on a mountainside in the north of Sakurajima volcanic island. Since then, for over 300 years the kiln has been producing simple but beautiful flower vases, plates, sake sets, tea sets and bowls with various glazes including amber, black, tricolor, samehada (shark skin texture) and jakatsu (snake and scorpion skin texture) using local clay, glaze and noborigama (multi-chambered climbing kiln).
