森山窯　Moriyama-gama kiln

解説：1300年の歴史をもつ、温泉と豊富なる陶土に恵まれた石州温泉津は、遠く宝永年間に開窯されていて、明治、大正、昭和の最盛期には、10数基の登窯を有したと云われます。森山窯は、昭和46(1971)年に島根県の温泉津に開窯以来、常に師である河井寬次郎先生晩年の6年間修行中「陶工になる前に先ず立派な人間になれ。焼物は繰返しのみでなく、創造の意欲を忘れてはならない」と厳しく教わったことを基本にその後倉敷の故武内晴二郎先生のところで職人としての5年間勉強したことを役立てながら民芸としての雑器を中心にした、現代的な生活にも充分対応出来る焼物造りに精を出しております。

Characteristics: Yunotsu in Iwami province has 1300 year old hot spring and plenty of fine potter’s clay. The first kiln there was established in early 18th century and said to operate dozens of noborigama (multi-chambered climbing kilns) in its 19th century heyday. The kiln’s master potter says, “I established my kiln here in 1971. I was trained for 6 years by the late master potter, Kanjiro Kawai, who drummed into me that first of all you have to be excellent person, and that you shouldn’t repeat things and lose motivation for creativity. Next, I studied craftsmanship for 5 years under the late master potter Seijiro Takeuchi in Kurashiki city. These precious lessons resulted in my practical modern Mingei pottery.”
