40 plate, trailed iron glaze by Teruo Suzuki 1988

Teruo Suzuki was born in 1948 in Yamagata prefecture. He decided to become a potter in his university days and has continued producing pottery on his own to this day.
This plate was an award winner in “New Works Competition and Exhibition 1988”. Gravity alone drew black glaze from the rim, resulting in this radial decoration on the amber surface. No hand controls these trails; their unexpected charm is a product of natural forces. Using the natural materials around him and a firewood kiln, Suzuki developed a profound respect for the natural forces he felt in every part of the pottery process.
