21. molded round amber glazed bowl with impressed pattern (1983)

At the Shussai-gama kiln Hiromitsu Tatano was mainly responsible for the production of molded pieces. Molding is the best method for making a number uniform of same pieces and generally used for producing square pieces rather than round pieces. Although the potter’s wheel is good for making round pieces, Tatano used a mold to produce this round plate. To make the crescent patterns inside for this plate he invented an original tool made from ladles. This plate demonstrates his enthusiasm for molded pieces and the beauty of the unlimited variety of works he produced from one mold.
